I was feeling a bit 'out of the swing' of charity things, having spent time recovering from the knee operation ... and not least becoming a father! I knew a chap who had done this swim the year before and it sounded like a great way to to get fit again and also a really fun event.
The Great North Swim started in 2008 and involves a 1 mile marked course from the Low Wood Hotel Marina, near Ambleside, out into lake Windermere and back to Low Wood. It is a recognised race for the professionals who manage it it times as ridiculous as 17 minutes! For the average punter it usually takes somewhere between 30-60 minutes.
Again I was raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care and a total of £2,061 was raised through your very kind donations for which I am, as always, extremely grateful.
You can view the Justgiving web page with all the kind messages here
There was also an ancilliary Justgiving site as I gave up smoking for the duration of the training!
