Great North Swim 2009
Great North Swim 2009

I didn't realise it at the time but last year's swim in Windermere was just the beginning.

The last two years have also been an interesting time - I became a father and also got heavily involved with the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat (RBRB). Suffering from a lack of local crew, a problem also faced by the RNLI up and down the country, this independent lifeboat was very much in need of support and I volunteered!

Working for RBRB is a hugely rewarding job ... and I'm afraid we also need money for the next boat. Already called out on service 10 times in 2010, RBRB carries out essential, lifesaving, work for the many vistors to this part of the Yorkshire Coast approximately 6 miles north of Whitby. RBRB is crewed by volunteers and there's much more on the charity at www.runswickrescue.org.uk.

My plan is to swim 7 miles from the sands at Runswick Bay to the beach side of Whitby Harbour to raise funds for the charity. The date is Sunday 29th August 2010, leaving Runswick at 2:30pm to take advantage of the slack tide ... although if the conditions aren't right it will have to wait until the next available opportunity.
