Currently in the planning phase is a charity swim on behalf of the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat.

The basic plan is to swim from the sands at Runswick Bay to the beach side of Whitby Harbour on Sunday 22nd August 2010, leaving Runswick at 11:43am to take advantage of the slack tide.

It scares me a little as it's over six miles in the North Sea, around several rocky headlands, and I will need to be at least a half mile offshore to have any advantage from the tides. In addition to the cold and the physical effort, I am absolutely terrified of what I can't see beneath me! I know there aren't any Great Whites in the North Sea ... but ...
